Serena Williams needs surgery on her right foot after cutting it on a broken glass at a restaurant.
The top-ranked women’s player was injured last week and will miss three tournaments leading to the U.S. Open, the WTA Tour said Saturday.
Williams has withdrawn from tournaments in Istanbul, Cincinnati and Montreal. the tour website offered no details about what happened at the restaurant.
“I’m so upset I won’t be able to play in the upcoming events because of this foot surgery,” Williams said on the website. “Thank you for all of your support. I can’t wait to get back on the courts.”
Williams won her fourth Wimbledon crown and 13th major title in July. the Rogers Cup in Montreal begins Aug. 16, and the U.S. Open starts Aug. 30.

Here’s the latest animal rights campaign from PETA, starring Pamela Anderson’s T&A. this is a new one, this strategy I mean. Anderson doesn’t appear to be fully naked in the picture and I’m not entirely sure what to make of this. I’m looking at the image and I would like to know a little more about its staunch stance on certain pertinent animal rights issues, but someone first needs to email PETA letting them know they accidentally distributed an advert where a star is near clothed. Per my last post, it’s pretty unusual to see these ads with clothed stars. No one there’s allowed to represent the charity while wearing pants (which still stands). But, I’m so overwhelmed by the use of a bikini in this advert that I’m going to blithely overlook its message. How am I expected to care about animal rights when the spokesperson isn’t naked, PETA? Moreover, how is Anderson supposed to help the animals if her ‘rump’ isn’t totally out there? It’s for the animals. the ANIMALS. WHY WON’T SOMEONE THINK OF THE ANIMALS.
